Make a Move!
Today, I am going to share a post that one of my friends shared on Instagram this past week. I met Derrica (pictures of her in High School at YL camps above😊) through Young Life in high school, twenty something years ago, which explains the good ole’ flip phone in the picture (that was some top tech there to all you younger folks!). Derrica, a.k.a. “Mama D,” is one of those friends that you can just say her name and the warmth of her friendship and countenance just fills your soul with an abundance of joy! She was the homecoming queen, the student body president, everybody loves Derrica! But she wasn’t going to settle for staying in our small town, when she knew God was calling her elsewhere- she wasn’t going to be pigeonholed into the status quo. And this is something I love about her! She seeks Jesus and she follows! I say she could be president any day she likes- but for now she has a bigger calling right where God has placed her. I won’t give away what she is doing now, but HE is very good, even when the call is out of our (and family and friends 😊) comfort zone. Proud of you girl!
“Been seeing a lot of talk of what Jesus would do with what’s happening with our brown sisters and brothers and I get the sentiment. I get that you think Jesus would be flipping tables or protesting against all of this which is true to an extent but also let’s remember Jesus’ own fate. He was arrested. He was beaten. He was persecuted. We cannot just look at the “good and palatable” parts of his ministry without looking at what truly occurred.
Jesus would be the target of this massive abuse of human rights. He would be mourning and scared. He would be side by side with the children and families and honest people who may feel hopeless. He would hear the chants of the people outside the detainment centers and have faith that the bravery of the people on the frontlines would stop the chaos. He would cry with the people he’s with and be mad but more than that, He would hope that we would remember His words and get to action.
Posts are great and not everyone is meant to be outside (know your strengths). BUT!!!! Don’t NOT do anything. CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES, feed your neighbors, check in with our brothers and sisters, get educated, and don’t get distracted! The enemy’s greatest tactic is division. Stand Strong.”
Let this soak in.
She gave me permission to share this with you all. Over the years she has been one of the people in my life that has given me perspective that I otherwise would never have. Division is the enemy’s greatest tactic. And he is doing a fine job of making this happen at the moment. The Jesus loving and following and professing community needs to be more united than ever- we must not be silent. The difference in doing something and doing nothing is everything. We are his hands and feet in this moment, let him lead you in doing something!
